Philips Baristina review

Updated 2026-07-13

Philips Baristina (model BAR300/60) is a compact bean-to-cup machine that does the grinding and tamping for you, then brews, all from one swipe of the portafilter. A ceramic burr grinder feeds a 16 bar pump, and the body is about as wide as a pod maker. Milk is not part of the package, so Philips sells a separate automatic frother.

Our opinion

6.5/10

Simple, not adjustable

How we score →

If you are stepping up from pods and the thought of weighing and tamping already sounds like a chore, this is the machine that takes it away. The automatic tamp and one-swipe brew are clever, and a ceramic grinder in a body this small is more than the capsule crowd usually gets. What you give up is control, because the grind and dose are locked, so when a shot runs sour there is nothing to adjust, and the milk frother is a separate 100 dollar box. We would take a Ninja Luxe Café over it when the counter space allows, but for a small kitchen where fuss is the enemy the Baristina earns its spot.

What works

  • +Automatic tamping and one-swipe brewing make it about as simple as a pod machine while grinding fresh beans
  • +Footprint is close to a pod maker, so it fits a tight counter
  • +Reviewers found the shot consistently well extracted for the price and category

The catch

  • Grind size and dose are fixed, so there is no dial to turn when a shot tastes off
  • No milk system in the box, and the matching frother costs about 100 dollars more
  • The shell is mostly plastic and there is no power switch

What owners say

Recurring themes from public owner discussion (professional reviews, video reviews, owner forum discussion), paraphrased. Checked 2026-07-13.

Comes up as praise

  • +The one-swipe grind and tamp makes a fresh shot feel as easy as a capsule
  • +Small enough to sit where a pod machine used to
  • +A clear step up in taste from capsules for owners coming off Nespresso

Comes up as gripes

  • No way to adjust grind or dose when a shot pulls sour or muddy
  • The separate milk frother adds cost and takes more counter space
  • The plastic build and missing power switch feel cheap for the money
